Carry On Up The Cyber

I’m not looking forward to this. Why would I want to write a “blog?”. I’d be drawn to writing a screenplay, a song, some lyrics….. but a “blog!!??”.

Here it is anyway, my first one. I’m 58. I would be older but luckily I was born at a very young age.

I remember one thing my dad used to say to me {apart from “shut that f***ing noise up!”}. He’d say “Son”… {and I’m fairly sure I was}…”When I get to 50, I’ll be happy. I’ll have lived long enough and I don’t care if I die then”. Years later I reminded him of this and he remarked that it’s amazing how your mind can change when you reach 49. I’m often asked if his death was a surprise and I have to say that at 53 it was for him.

Well I’m past that point, I’m 58 and new to the world of online networking, Twitter, Bookface etc.

I’ve had a website for about 10 years which I set up myself using one of those free website design programs you get. I was so proud of it until a 15 year old Uriah Heep fan emailed me from the States saying how he’d loved the music I’ve been involved in over the years and outlined to what lengths my playing had inspired him.  Unfortunately his communication ended with “But dude, that website’s gotta go”.

Looking back it did look a bit like the back of a detergent packet. Being a trained hypnotherapist it’s very important to be sensitive to the subtle meanings behind what people are conveying so after that the website did in fact go.

Now hooked up with an awesome media consultant named Louise Wightman in Glasgow, Scotland I realize how long I’ve been in the dark ages in terms of modern promotion. And actually, as well as the myriad of communication possibilities she has introduced me to, this bit is quite good fun….

More to come………….
